~ 2021
The weaver Kyozo Shimogawa presented in Paris in February 2020 the Japanese technique of kurume-kasuri, also commonly known as ikat. In this context, he launched the International Shimogawa Kasuri Future Award. This weaving has the main characteristic of vibrating graphically, giving it a powerful internal energy. This vibration on a flat surface reminds me of the optical effects of French pointillist paintings: two or three colours placed side by side mix at a certain distance. I decided to combine these two techniques in order to create a pattern that is doubly vibrant, both graphically and in colour. Once selected, I exchanged with Kyozo Shimogawa to develop together this pattern, designed according to the technique and constraints of kurume-kasuri.
